Fatty liver in continuous stress

In the body the storage of lipids takes place in adipose tissue. Due to nutritional imbalance, insulin resistance and/or deficiency as well as drug use liver cells may accumulate lipid droplets in their cytosol. This condition is benign because of the liver’s unique ability to regenerate. However, the lipid accumulation may not resolve if one is under chronic stress.

  • This could lead to fatty liver disease (steatosis) and NASH. NASH is a condition where chronic liver inflammation causes severe damage to the liver architecture. It can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer, and cause significant organ dysfunction.
